Exciting News For Customers - Monday I attended a meeting sponsored by Commissioner Gipson featuring Dr. Allen Williams at the Ag Musuem in Jackson. The purpose was to introduce Mississippi farmers to Regenerative Agriculture as a way to improve profitability by reducing input costs and explore marketing opportunities vs. the typical commodity price trap.

I apologize for the poor quality of the picture, but wanted to show the turnout of farmers. Lane Milton who oversees Genuine MS program said there were 125 people registered and I know there were many name tags written at the registration desk from folks not registered. Very Promising turnout.
Ironically, Allen Williams asked for a show of hands of folks from: MSU Extension - 0; Alcorn St - 2; Farm Bureau - 0; USDA - 0; MS Cattleman's Assn. - 0; MS Senate or Representatives - 0. When I gave my presentation I asked if there were any folks from MS Health Department - 0. You can view my presentation HERE.
Allen opened by providing this definition of Regenerative Agriculture: Farming and ranching in synchrony with Nature to Repair, Rebuild, Revitalize and Restore ecosystem function starting with life within the soil and expanding to life above the soil. He gave examples of benefits from Regenerative Trials between conventional farming vs. Regenerative farming using actual data from farms.
Allen also gave a lot of science details linking soil health to human health and the current state of the beef industry.
Allen asked several farmers whom he has worked with to be part of a panel discussion where folks could ask questions. One of the questions folks had was about the cost of regenerative food vs. conventional food. Allen offered these prices of conventional foods for comparison (2024 prices): Baked Lays - $12.26/lb, Doritos - $10.01/lb, Cheerios - $8.65/lb, Special K - $9.66/lb, Jack Link's Beef Jerky $35.31/lb, McD's Qtr Pounder - $15.62/lb, Taco Bell Beef Taco $23.45/lb, Chik-Fil-A Sandwich $22.65/lb, and Burger King Impossible Whopper $29.16/lb.
Before the meeting Monday I had asked one of my very engaged customers to meet me for breakfast. He chose Primos there on Lakeland Drive (we are really spoiled and often don't realize how good we have it - our eggs are so much better than what Primos served!!!) Stephen shared that his family recently returned from W. VA where they visited his family. They spent the night at a Hampton Inn. For breakfast his son pick up a box of Rice Krispies. Stephen read the label which, among other things, listed Bio-Engineered Ingredient - so, what is that really? Not something I would want to eat!
So, Friday I asked Beth to do a bit of investigating at our local grocery store. Come to find out Bio-Engineered Ingredients are in more than Rice Krispies. It is also listed for Honey Nut Cheerios, Nature Valley Oats-N- Honey bar, and Frosted Flakes. Are you Surprised? And, the price per pound ranged from $10.20 to $11.72 per pound.
Here is a comment from Brock R. who says "I drove from Columbus, MS. I met a lot of awesome people it was the best thing I have been to yet. Excited about the future in this for My Family." I'm very excited.... hope you are as well.
Next week I hope to share more about the nutrient value of pastured meats vs. conventional CAFO farming so stay tuned.
Picture of the Week - I don't know about you, but I am very pleased with most of the work RFK Jr. is doing. Emphasing the importance of real farm food as medicine, right sizing the US Food Pyramid and lately his show titled "The Real Food Show".

Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is joined by Chef Geoffrey Zakarian for a NEW episode of The Real Food Show to demonstrate that cooking with real, whole-food ingredients can be healthy, delicious, and affordable. Chef Zakarian prepares a classic French omelet with Gruyère and fresh chives, served alongside a crisp butter lettuce salad with homemade vinaigrette—all for under $5. With simple ingredients and easy techniques, this complete meal shows that eating real food doesn’t have to break the bank.
