PFAS (i.e. Forever Chemicals) - First, I am anything but an expert on Forever Chemicals. However, I took a deeper look after several customers alerted me to the risk to humans, animals, and soil health.
So, what are "forever chemicals? PFAS is a group of synthetic "forever chemicals" used since the 1940's to make products stain-resistant, waterproof, and non-stick. PFAS are incredibly persistent, resisting breakdown in the envIronment and human body. PFAS are linked to cancers and health issues; they are found in drinking water, food, and common consumer products like clothing, cookware, and firefighting foam.
Common sources & uses are Non-stick Cookware, Stain-Resistant Fabrics, Food Packaging like grease-resistant bags, wrappers, and fast-food containers, and Personal Care Products like certain cosmetics and dental floss.
Health Risks associated to exposure to certain PFAS has been linked to harmful health effects, including cancer, liver damage, fertility issues, and thyroid disease.
Sure makes me appreciate the simpler life and a good ole cast iron pan greased with pig lard!
Recently a customer forwarded me a video link (which I have misplaced) of an OK Rancher discussing newborn calves that had died mysteriously on his ranch. He was very proactive in seeking answers for the reason(s) why they had died including autopsy. However, the typical autopsy did not reveal any reasons. As another calf died the lab dug deeper and found liver damage caused by exposure to PFAS. Unfortunately, I don't remember if they had located the source of the forever chemicals or not.
This is further justification why I am very deliberate in what I will and will not allow on my farm - these days you just don't know!
Organic Consumers Association Reports - Teri, a long time customer who picks up at our Picayune location, turned me onto OCA 10 years or so ago. If you are not familiar with OCA, their mission is to protect and advocate for consumers' right to safe, healthful food and other consumer products, a just food and farming system and an environment rich in biodiversity and free of pollutants. Today, folks are looking for truth - I recently came across the word Berean and looked up the definition. A Berean is a person who diligently, openly, and daily examines the Scriptures to verify the truth of teachings...originally referring to inhabitants of the ancient city of Berea in Macedonia who welcomed Paul's preaching. If interested, visit Berean Bible Society

OCA is a great resource for helping consumers determine truth about food companies. Here are several recent examples I would like to share:
First, a new study found 98 Percent of Meat & Dairy Companies' Climate Pledges Branded "Greenwashing". The study, published Apr 2026, where researchers analyzed 1,233 environmental claims from 33 of the world's largest meat and dairy companies, taken from available sustainability reports and corporate websites. Basically includes corporate commitments that were not backed by evidence.
The second report is about General Mills - they start off by saying GM is a bastion of ultra-processed, genetically modified foods, but it's always found ways to make it LOOK LIKE it's part of the regenerative, organic movement. Here are a few snippets from the report-
Its worst greenwashing was when it used its Honey Nut Cheerios brand for a Bring Back the Bees campaign – never mentioning that glyphosate and chlormequat, pesticides used to harvest the cereal’s oats, were implicated in Colony Collapse Disorder.
The latest news is that General Mills has abandoned its commitment to reduce pesticides. This was confirmed by As You Sow in its 2026 Pesticides in the Pantry report.
General Mills used to keep a webpage on everything it was doing to reduce pesticides. Now that page redirects visitors to a “regenerative” page that doesn’t mention pesticides at all. In fact, you won’t find the word “pesticide” on General Mills’ website or in any current public statement.
Is it any wonder consumers are increasingly saying "we do not trust food in grocery stores any more."
Nature's Gourmet Farm prides ourselves in transparency! We encourage folks to visit and see firsthand what makes our farm different. We use our Newsletter and YouTube channel to communicate our principles, priorities, practices, programs, successes, and failures. Our work here is not about generating corporate profits or increasing share price, but is a mission to provide clean, nutritious, and healthy meat and eggs to families who value a healthy lifestyle.
Lastly, very positive research shared by OCA is titled "Grass-Fed Beef Is More Nutritious Than Grain-Fed." I hope you will click the link and read the research and that it confirms your commitment to only buying grass-finished beef from our farm. Frankly, I would suggest just like beef, other animal proteins will benefit in a similar manner.
