Pic's From Around The Farm This Week - today I wanted to share a few pictures of events from our farm this week as well as provide a few comments.

2026-0717-Calf.jpg

July 1st this calf lost its mom. She was about 15 years old and did not recover from delivery. So, we have been bottle feeding her - and boy is she an aggressive feeder. Friday morning when feeding her the turkeys you see in the background were gathered close around watching - really curious. They would turn their head this way then that way trying to figure out what was going on. At only 6 weeks old the males are starting to strut and gobble! They are funny to watch.

The calf has doubled the amount of milk she drinks in these short two weeks. And as you can imagine will follow you anywhere....

2026-0717-Pigs.jpg

Here are a few of our pigs - the others are chillin in their wollar (a pig's swimming pool so to speak). The pigs have the best place on the farm to be in shade on the bright sunny & hot days.

2026-0717-Hens.jpg

I caught the hens out late Friday afternoon. During the day they stay under the shade provided by the tractors and near their water source. Of course dust baths are a big part of their day. They thank each of you for buying their nutritious pasture-raised eggs, but wanted to also note that with the heat, production is off some 30% until the temperature cools down a bit. And, these hot nights - what's a girl to do?

2026-0717-yearlings.jpg

I moved the yearling into this paddock just before dark Thursday evening. For some reason the water had been turned off!!! And, our help failed to check when in the area twice Friday. Needless to say they were thristy when I visited them Friday afternoon. The more dominate & less scared yearlings drank first. Followed by the more timid and younger yearlings. I had to hold the trough in place for about an hour before enough of them had drank to allow the trough to fill up and stay in place. Plenty of fresh water is very important for all the animals during these hot summer days.

2026-0717-Silvopasture.jpg

Our SilvoPasture trees planted last January are doing pretty good. The varieties that were two years old and thus taller are now peeking out the top of the protective tube. I believe we have about 90% survival rate at this time, but they are needing a rain as it has now turned dry.

2026-0717-Beef-Week.jpg

The green crates to the left are from the seven beef we cut & packed this week. Tuesday & Wednesday we cut and pack the Intact cuts and Thursday we grind and pack the Non-Intact items like ground beef & organ burger. This week was difficult as we had up to three folks out which left us short handed. Grateful for the ones here that really stepped up and did an outstanding job.

2026-0717-Delivery.jpg

These four "boats" as they are called are loaded with about 2500 pounds that was packed Friday to be delivered on our Jackson Metro route Saturday morning. This does not inclue the 13 Farm orders we had for this week. July is a slow month as a lot of folks are on vacation and now many are getting children ready to start school - next week! I would not like year round school -- very bad idea.

Half-Beef Custom Processed Orders - AUGUST harvest order window will open July 6th and close Monday, July 27th. Harvest will be August 4th. Availability will be about August 24th. Thanks 😉

This is meat you can feel confident in knowing where it comes from and what it contains. We are so happy to know exactly what we’re feeding our family. We also love the eggs, sausage, and chicken!!! We’re so thankful for this farm and so thankful we get to enjoy gourmet food like this everyday."
