Farm Book Recommendations –

It is very hard to convince folks that large food, ag, chemical, and drug companies have a scheme to benefit their profits. They fund grants to land
grant colleges to research and find "X" results. Then use the USDA, FDA, and other agencies to market their products to farmers and consumers
(while also placing senior executives in key government jobs to influence internal agencies as well as lobbyist to influence Congress, state
legislatures, state Ag. departments, and etc.) Small direct market farmers have an uphill battle to survive.

This week I read an article covering a new book by a Michigan State Professor titled "Concentration and Power in the Food System: Who
Controls What We Eat?"  You can view the article here:

The question I start with is “has the physical & mental health of Americans improved?” The blog I wrote on July 22 provided websites that graph health trends and rank how states fair.

Have you read the book titled “The Marvelous Pigness of Pigs”. A wonderful lady (and customer) gave me her copy to read. It is all about
Stewardship – from the farmer and consumer perspective. I know that each day I ask God to help me be a good Steward of His blessing – to steward the soil, forage, animals, etc. that He has put in my care – to Steward according to His plan and not mine. How many consumers can say they give a thought about buying food from a farm or company that was raised like that? Could it be that is why we have much of the mental & physical health issues we have today… folks are eating “fake” food not raised the way God intended.

Customer Feedback-

"Real food the way it was intended", Obtaining high quality food from high quality people right from the community in which we live.....WOW..... what more could you ask for? The flavor and tenderness is superb in both the beef and pork offers. No need to cover the meats with excessive seasonings and marinades.....lightly season with your favorite herbs then sit back and enjoy the natural flavors.

The purchase transactions are simply clear and concise! Joseph B.

My Customer Response

Food deserts are regions where people have limited access to healthful and affordable food. This may be due to having a low income or having to travel farther to find healthful food options. Without access to healthful foods, people living in food deserts may be at higher risk of diet-related conditions, such as obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and micro-nutrient deficiencies. Medical News Today I would offer additional considerations to include: 1. In 2016 a study was made that determined MS imports $8.5 billion dollars worth of food. That was more than a billion greater than farm commodity crops generated in sales that year.

A Reason For Hope

A Reason For Hope - This newsletter has been hard to put together – so many different yet related inputs it has been difficult to keep the focus corralled and the length within reason. So, I will simply use a few excerpts from a recent podcast with Dr. Mark Hyman on TCN. The FACTS are clear – Centralized, Cheap, Commodity, Processed, and etc. food (as it is called – not what Webster calls food) is a complete FAILURE. FAILURE is across all races, includes male & females, and income levels. However, lower income levels are affected at a higher level and the Southeast US is also higher. FAILURE is not only in physical health with the increase in chronic diseases, but also mental health
