Poultry Update & New Product Announced

Poultry Update - The meeting did happen this week! Not much to report other than we have progress but, there is work yet to be done!
Mark Leggett (pictured above) is obviously a greedy man! He is the president of the MS Poultry Assn. and the lead opponent against changing the poultry regulations in MS to equal the Federal Exemption of 20,000 per year. He mostly represents poultry processors (Tyson, Sanderson Farm, et. al.) vs. poultry growers who are the farmers that own the land, chicken houses, and DEBT (the producer owns the actual chicken) - the growers who take ALL the risk.
I say greedy because just how much is enough. According to their website, MS poultry growers raise 762 million chickens per year. Yet, he threatens when folks want to change the exemption from the current 1000/year (0.00013%) to 20,000/year (0.00262% of the state total produced). Frankly, I don't see why this would be worth his time - which I am sure he is paid very big bucks.
So, since volume does not represent a treat to any processor's market share, what is Leggett afraid of? Could it be:
1) the very poor working conditions growers are exposed to
2) what about the pay growers receive vs. risk they assume + long hours
3) what about fear of the meat racket they have created being exposed
4) what about keeping his OWN job?
Just whose interest DOES Leggett represent:
1) cannot be the growers because they only receive a reported $0.075 Lb price for their chicken
2) cannot be MS Agriculture because states like NC agriculture economy is 10-times MS
3) cannot be the citizens of MS because he is restricting your access to healthy-pasture raised chicken
4) So, he must represent ONLY the best interest of processors!
Whatever it is, it sure seems to me the pie is very big and with population increases will only get bigger. I believe there is plenty of business for BOTH large and small farmers to share in. Besides, we do not compete for the same customer!
This whole racket reminds me of a story found in 1 Samuel 17 of a boy named David who took provisions to his brothers who were in Saul's army. While there, the Philistine giant named Goliath again came out defying the armies of Israel - give me a man that we may fight together. You know the story... David chose five smooth stones from the brook... challenged Goliath by saying, "for the battle is the LORD'S, and he will give you into our hands". David took a stone and slang it and smote Goliath and then cut off Goliath's head with the giants own sword. What we need today is a David to defeat this giant.
New Product - Introducing Stewing Hens. Our stewing hens are truly an old-fashioned traditional favorite. These are older flavorful free-range hens that have lived a full life on pastures. Stewing hens are sought after for their superior nutrient value that comes at a lower cost. Stewing hens need to be cooked at a low heat for several hours before they will become tender. When cooked correctly, however, stewing hens yield delicious meat and rich, flavorful chicken stock. It will remind you of grandma's kitchen! Click here to order yours today. They are priced at $6 each and will weigh 2.5 to 3 pounds each.
Customer Feedback-
"I picked up our first order of beef on May 30, 2018. I have cooked two pounds of ground beef and one two-pound sirloin tip roast. This is the best beef I have ever eaten! Excellent flavor and melt in your mouth tender. My husband grew up on a cattle ranch in Kansas and he is also very impressed with your beef. We will not hesitate to purchase again and highly recommend to anyone considering purchasing from you. Looking forward to also purchasing chicken and pork.” - N Witt
