FARM UPDATE:
Hey, Ben here - this week I want to update you on various farm activities. The very wet fall & winter we had was hard on our farm. But, Spring is here and it seems El Nino may be moving on. Our diverse forage pastures are responding very good to the warmer temperatures and sunshine and providing plenty of lush grasses and legumes for our steers and nursing momma cows!
Sows are busy raising their next litter. Baby pigs are so fun to watch - and fast. They can really scoot. The faster they scoot the faster their oink, oink!
The hens are awesome. They hit the ground at daylight and start searching for any bugs and forages. By lunch they are mostly full, have laid their egg and are stretched out sun bathing. This is usually interrupted when Beth & I come move, feed, and gather eggs. They really like it when Ms. Helen at Vitamin's Plus sends home goodies for them with Beth. They love all fruits, tomatos, cucumbers, squash, beets - nothing goes to waste. Recently, we grazed the steers in their pasture. They tend to just stand at the electric poly net fence trying to figure out what all those birds are doing.
We currently have two batches of broilers on the farm. One on pasture and one in the brooder. One of my task today is mow the pasture area as the forages are getting high. There is always something to do on the farm!
Within a week or so it will be time to plant summer forages. The peas have delivered and the grasses are waiting for me to pickup from the farm store. And, Beth has reminded me it is time to plant our garden!
One more thing before I close, for the first time, our newsletter will be delivered to more than 1,000 email addresses. Back in February we passed the 1,000 mark of customers who have signed up on our website.
Bottom line, we thank you and appreciate your support as we strive to provide premium quality (and clean) beef, pork, chicken, and eggs for your family.
