A Reason For Hope - This newsletter has been hard to put together – so many different yet related inputs it has been difficult to keep the focus corralled and the length within reason. So, I will simply use a few excerpts from a recent podcast with Dr. Mark Hyman on TCN.
The FACTS are clear – Centralized, Cheap, Commodity, Processed, and etc. food (as it is called – not what Webster calls food) is a complete FAILURE.
FAILURE is across all races, includes male & females, and income levels. However, lower income levels are affected at a higher level and the Southeast US is also higher.
FAILURE is not only in physical health with the increase in chronic diseases, but also mental health as well as the farmers who support this system carry $435 billion in debt and have a suicide rate 350% higher than there are in the rest of the population.
Most of this started in the 1970’s and ramped up in the 1980’s when big tobacco companies bought food companies and introduced “addictive” strategies to food.
Do you remember video and pictures of the tens of thousands of people who attended Woodstock in August 1969? Not an overweight person in the group. Today, 42% of Americans are obese. Why is that???? What changed???? What do you eat today that is different than you did prior to 1980 (for our older readers of course)?
There is a Reason For Hope that folks who have been raising the alarm on our food, medical, pharma, agriculture & profit driven epidemic (my word) is the root cause of our chronic illness crisis.
Do I agree with everything about Dr. Hyman? No, for example, the WEF and promotion of the shot in 2021. However, I agree with his (and others) analysis of our health crisis.
I am also hoping that our MS politicians are taking notice that people are fed up with them legislating based on support of BIG AG at the expense of small farms. The solution to many of the chronic disease issues is the rebirth of hundreds, even thousands of DECENTRALIZED small farms raising whole nutrient dense foods purchased direct by the consumer.
Here are a few excerpts from the podcast. You can watch the full interview here.
Tucker So. Okay. Bobby Kennedy, your longtime friend, looks like he's going to be the HHS secretary. Assess. Did you think that was going to happen?
Dr. Mark Hyman In my lifetime, no, Tucker. We're in this historic moment where, you know, America is waking up to the fact that it's been the frog in boiling water, slowly getting sicker and sicker and sicker, bankrupting our country with almost $5 trillion in health care costs, 1 in 5 dollars of our economy, 80% of it or more is preventable. 99% of Medicare dollars are spent on preventable chronic disease. And never this conversation has happened in the political discourse until now.
Labeling is really key. But right now, if you're just trying to figure it out, look at the ingredient list. If there's stuff there that you wouldn't have on your kitchen counter or you wouldn't have in your pantry, don't eat it.
(Like others, Dr. Hyman considers seed oils, ultra processed foods, and sugar as the main causes of chronic disease. I would include grains sprayed with chemicals - including grains fed to animals in conventionally raised methods. What your beef, pork, and chicken eats you also eat!).
Dr. Mark Hyman I'm optimistic, Tucker. I think we're in a moment where the country is ready for change, where the country understands we have this health crisis where they're willing to make changes. And I think if the politicians in Congress understand these issues, I think they'll make right choices. I think if they have the support of the American people, which I think they do, they can make choices that are difficult and often against the people who are funding their campaigns, are fighting for funding their super PACs. And, you know, we have to realize we have a button for pay for a system. And it's unfortunate, but I think that the problems got big enough. We have to face it and deal with it.
Raw Milk IN THE NEWS – TX Commissioner of Agriculture Sid Miller says we should drink raw milk-or at least have it available in the dairy aisles of our grocery stores. “Raw milk isn’t for everyone, but that doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be available.”
“There’s nothing more American than the freedom to choose what kind of food you eat,” Miller wrote in his op-ed. Read the full version here.
“I grew up on a dairy farm in WI where we drank raw milk and grew all of our own food (and it was organic) because we were poor. I do the same thing to this day because it's healthy. I'm 67 years old and work out daily, no medications, no illnesses and I weigh only 5 pounds more than I did in high school. It can be done!” @pattipwoman
What do you believe?
What would MS Agriculture Commissioner Andy Gipson say about MS regulations & laws that do not support small farmers and have destroyed our rural economies?
Next week I plan to follow up on how MS laws & regulations impact not only our farm, but any person who wants to “convert” from conventional to regenerative farming.
At Nature's Gourmet Farm, our intent is to create a community that evolves around one of the most intrinsically important things of the ages, and that’s the provision of sustenance. That's our passion - to raise healthy food to nourish families and strengthen immune systems.
