Are You Troubled With Effects of Glyphosate?

It's been a busy week here on the farm!

Tuesday through Thursday we worked on cutting, packing, and making ground beef & organ burger to restock our store Thursday evening.

Friday, our soil consultant is on site working with us on building compost piles and learning how to evaluate our biology using the microscope. More to come later.

Today, I want to share a documentary on glyphosate - the active ingredient in Roundup that is sprayed on corn and soybeans to kill weeds and onto wheat & oats prior to harvest to defoliate the plant just before harvesting. In case you don't know, the seed head is at the top of the plant and receives a full dose of this harmful chemical.

You may think you have nothing to worry about. I hope that is true. However, about 90% or more of the items in grocery stores have corn, soy, wheat and or oats as ingredients. That means it is also in food served at restaurants.

Just to confirm - Our Farm does NOT use any feedstuffs that contain glyphosate! So, no worries with our beef, pork, chicken, and eggs.

Most peoples health issues start in their gut and that is where glyphosate accumulates from food consumed.

The documentary is titled "Secret Ingredients" . Here is a summary from the directors. You can click the title and watch for free.

"While the debate continues about GMOs, Roundup and other toxic pesticides, this powerful film shares remarkable stories of people who regain their health after discovering the secret ingredients in their food and making a bold commitment to avoid them. At the heart of the story is Kathleen DiChiara who always worked out and ate right - or so she thought. When her health and the health of her family fell apart, she was determined to figure out why. When she discovered the secret ingredients hidden in their food and removed them, the results were dramatic. The film shares many other powerful stories of people who regained their health after changing to an all organic diet, free of GMOs, Roundup and other toxic pesticides. Skin rashes cleared up; tumors disappeared; digestive issues settled down; infertile couples now have happy babies; cancer patients are now cancer free; and autistic children are now off the spectrum. These experiences are backed up by physicians, scientists and experts who explain the science, and the political history, of GMOs and pesticides - particularly Roundup and the key ingredient, glyphosate, which is sprayed on many crops and ends up on our table. Artfully directed by Amy Hart and leading anti-GMO consumer advocate, Jeffrey Smith, this film is the perfect blend of heartfelt stories and scientific information that may inspire you to ask, What could happen if I removed the secret ingredients from my kitchen?"

At Nature's Gourmet Farm, our intent is to create a community that will evolve around one of the most intrinsically important things of the ages, and that’s the provision of sustenance. That's our passion - to raise healthy food to nourish families and strengthen immune systems.

Cows & Pigs

Brand New Services– About six weeks ago Dixie Electric Power installed a brand new electric line with poles down my road. They replaced the old copper lines with aluminum and the poles are much better quality and taller. I asked the district manager when was the old copper line installed and he said since electric service was available for us… so, maybe since the mid 1940’s? Then, this week our complete road was blacktopped!!! If you have visited our farm you know it was long overdue. For years it has been patched to the point where the patches had patches. Hahaha

Clean and Cold | Adorable Calves

New Calves On Our Farm– Sometime in April we call our vet and schedule a breeding soundness exam for our bulls. This is before we add our bulls to our cow herd May 1st each year. Our oldest bull, affectionately named “Ole Man” by the guys here, was born on our farm the Spring of 2016.

New Pullets | Calves | Job Opening

Pullets arrived March 1st– every 6 months we receive a fresh batch of pullets. This year we were not sure if our late February to early March batch would be available…even though we ordered them last September. However, mostly since we have done business with the same farmer since the Spring of 2017, he prioritized our order and delivered them March 1st. While the price was higher, I was braced for a much higher price. Our pullets are typically 17 weeks old when delivered. They will start laying at about 24 weeks. That means we should start seeing medium eggs by our May delivery dates. YEAH!
