Half/Whole Beef Orders: As mentioned last week our beef sales this year have been outstanding. Especially our half/whole custom beef orders. Frankly, we have had to outsource the processing to Homestead because at this time we don’t have the capacity to handle the increased volume. This has also let us increase the quantity of cuts that we sell through our website.

We have planned the LAST 2024 harvest of seven beef (14 halves) for 2024. The harvest date will be November 5th. That will give the processor time to complete your order so pickup can be prior to your Thanksgiving holiday.

Four beef (8 halves) have already been spoken for. Inventory will be added to our website Sunday morning when everyone's order window is open. If you are interested then you need to place your order ASAP. Here is a link to helpful Ordering Tips.

Thanksgiving Turkeys & Smoked Hams:

Last year we ordered freshly frozen turkeys from Joe’s Farm in MI. He raises them on pasture just like we do and only feeds them Non-GMO turkey feed – same as NGF. And everyone loved them.

So, we have ordered 60 Thanksgiving turkeys from Joe’s Farm. I received word that they are processed and ready to ship by sprinter van. Not sure the exact delivery yet, but have set up our store to accept Pre-orders just like we did last year. Delivery to customers will start after we receive them, but not later than Thanksgiving.

***80% have already been spoken for using Pre-Order*** So, don’t hesitate and be left out. Joe said this is all he has left.

Smoked hams are a Thanksgiving favorite along with the centerpiece turkey. We will process smoked hams from pigs we harvested this week with inventory to be ready for November delivery routes.

Beef Herd Improvement: If you have been following our farm since the Spring then you know we purchased 23 bred Red Angus cows from a WY ranch that are direct descendants of the original Red Angus herd that started the breed back in the 1950's. This ranch started their herd in the early 1960's. The cows calved in May & June. Since then I have waited until the weather cooled down so we could AI (artificial inseminate) them.
The bull chosen is also from the same ranch. I have spoken with the ranch regarding bull selection and they researched genetics and said that was a good choice. Here is a picture of the bull - its a long 9-month wait to see the calves! Excited 😃

Part 3 of 4 Dr. Casey Means: So, why are we always stocked out? Because more and more families are ditching processed foods for real food from a farmer they know and trust!

Casey Means, MD is a Stanford-trained physician, Chief Medical Officer and Co-founder of metabolic health company Levels, and Associate Editor of the International Journal of Disease Reversal and Prevention. Her mission is to maximize human potential and reverse the epidemic of preventable chronic disease by empowering individuals with tech-enabled tools that can inform smart, personalized, and sustainable dietary and lifestyle choices.

Dr. Means published her book titled “Good Energy” on May 9th, 2024 that became an instant #1 New York Times bestseller.

Casey and her brother Calley are certainly doing a lot to increase awareness of how broken our health and food industries are. But, she is not the only one. Another prominent name, RFK Jr., is very outspoken on the poor condition of Americans' health and also calls out food as the primary issue.

Today, I’m sharing Part 3 of 4 themes Dr. Means discussed with Megyn Kelly titled “The Massive Conflicts of Interest in American Healthcare and Government Agencies”. You can watch from this link.

I’ll leave you with this quote from Wendell Berry who turned 90 years old this week - "People are fed by the food industry, which pays no attention to health, and are treated by the health industry, which pays no attention to food".

Farm & Market Updates

Market Update – Our farm objective is to raise nutrient dense meats without all the chemicals, vaccines, hormones, and etc. And be able to provide them to a community of families at a reasonable price. We measure success based on pounds sold verses dollars earned. Current beef prices are making that harder to accomplish as families seek options to reduce their food bills. I know we have not passed along the full impact of higher prices to our customers which means we are not making as much as before nor are we selling as much beef.

Beef Pricing Update & Sausage

Beef Pricing Update – Beef prices continue to increase and hit a new All-Time high AGAIN last week. This week, the Chief Production Officer (CPO) for JBS Meats (one of the four largest beef packers) stated that prices will remain high for at least the next two years. His rationale was the low cow herd numbers, little to no indication farmers/ranchers are retaining females to grow their herds (at these high prices they are taking the money now while it is there); when females are being retained it will take over 2.5 years before a calf will be ready for harvest (9-month gestation + about 24 months old at harvest). Lastly, consumer demand remains strong.
