Good News! - First, let me wish each of you a Happy Fourth of July!

Last Saturday, being the fourth weekend of the month, Beth and I did not have deliveries so we were able to attend a fellow farmer's Grand Opening red meat plant in Richland, MS. I have known Hugh about 10 years and his lead plant guy, Benny Malone, has been helping me on beef and pork harvest days since we opened our plant about 5 years ago. Benny has been a tremendous asset to our operation and easy to work with.

MS Ag Commissioner Andy Gipson was there and offered some remarks. Afterwards, we were able to speak and he shared some comments that I consider Good News. Specifically, that he has aggressively pushed to open more farmer's markets to give folks access to locally raised whole food. Currently, MS has 79 farmers markets or almost one for each county in our state. The newest Brandon market has received a lot of activity. Farmers without markets with people buying will not succeed.

We also discussed pastured poultry regulations and why the Department of Ag regulation is more stringent than the Public Law 90-492 passed by Congress back in the 1970's. He said that he is all for changing the regulation to match PL 90-492; however, "the State Health Department won't allow it and they are all over his back now regarding increasing the number of farmer's markets giving people access to real whole food" (may not be exact quote word for word, but includes points made).

I have heard this before from other sources - so, I asked him IF he was elected Govenor would he as Govenor appoint a RFK Jr. type who believes in soil health, regenerative farming, and eating real whole food for health over the MS Health Department and he said absolutely - and I could quote him on this. GREAT NEWS!

Commissioner also stated that Mississippi's population is among the highest vaccinated, highest medicated, and the most unhealthy in our nation. He's correct! The CDC and other source data that tracks chronic illnesses support this. As you know I regularly communicate that only 2% of the food consumed in MS is actually grown in MS which suggests a very large part of the 98% imported is processed or ultra-processed food with all kinds of unhealthy ingredients.

The key to a healthy lifestyle begins with eating and drinking real whole farm food - including raw milk from a sanitary farmer. An easy way to determine if you should consume something is to check the label. IF the label has multiple ingredients that you cannot pronounce or know their purpose and/or is not in your kitchen cabinet then you probably should NOT consume that.

That is what gets me about politicians who voted to continue funding sugary drinks, etc. under SNAP - Supplemental NUTRITION Assistance Program. When you look at the ingredients label there is nothing nutritional about those drinks!

Friday, we said goodbye to one of our Gulf Coast customers. She and her husband are moving to NC to be near grandkids. I looked up her order pattern. Her first order was 13 months ago and she ordered every month except one...all nice orders. She picked up an order at my farm early Friday morning on her way to NC. While here she shared that they started their health journey just over 12 months ago and switched to eating only our meat. Since then she has lost 35 pounds and her husband lost over 50 pounds. This will go a long way to reducing their risk of chronic illnesses!

Folks, testimonies like hers is what makes all the hard work worth every sore muscle, long hours, and dealing with politicians and bureaucrats.

Mississippi's population has been among the sickest for a long time. Let's start peeling the onion back, so to speak, and check out the MS Health Department.

I will start with their published 2025 Annual Report. Here is a screen shot of the first page.

So, they know the problem! The question is why do they keep trying to solve the problems with vaccines and medications that have only made the problems worse?

Did you notice that in 2024 there were more deaths than births in Mississippi? My first impression is this is a huge bureaucratic government department ripe for a deep cleansing. Could Mississippi's future depend on it? More thoughts to come.
