Life Is About Getting It Right

Sunday, January 5th I was sitting in church listening to Brother Andrews’ sermon.

Just the day before I had the opportunity to meet many new customers in Mobile, Ocean Springs, and Gulfport while making deliveries there for the first time.

When meeting customers they often share how they know they need to eat healthier. For many the motivation is to loose weight. For some it's to reduce the risk of serious disease caused by all the toxins used to grow food.

Others express the need to reduce the amount of medications they take and improve their quality of life.

His morning message referenced making New Year’s Resolutions and how 2020 offered an opportunity to start with a clean slate…anticipating what we can be and moving on from 2019.

About halfway through the message Brother Andrews mentioned the Aesop fable “The Tortoise and The Hare” and offered why Toby Tortoise won the race against Max Hare.

This struck a cord with me as my mind reflected back on conversations with customers about their need (and struggles) to eat healthier and what are the lessons there to encourage and help.

Here are some of my thoughts.

Vision
– Toby Tortoise knew where he wanted to go. He saw beyond the current situation and pictured what his future could look like.

Focused
- Toby was focused on winning. He was not deceived into believing he could make up lost time with his speed like Max Hare napping under the tree.

Disciplined
- Toby did not get sidetracked by short term things like Max as he stopped to talk with the female bunnies at the girls' school.

Persistent
- Toby was persistent despite the Hare zipping past him--teasing and jeering Toby for being sluggish and clumsy.

Deliberate
- Toby was deliberate. He made every step count.

Slow & Consistent
- Toby was always moving towards the goal of winning the race.

Bottom line, Toby Tortoise won because he simply kept doing what he knew to do!

This year, 2020, is not only a new year, but the start of a new decade. What is your vision for your health and the health of your family?

As my Dad used to tell me, “There is no time like the present to get started.”

I certainly hope the lessons of this story have been an encouragement for you.

Absolutely the Best tasting Chicken, Beef and Pork Breakfast Sausage! I'm excited to try the pork Chops next month, but the Chicken is by far superior to any chicken I've ever had! Thank you so much for all you do to bring us Healthy Food!"

Update: Raw Milk | Wintering Our Chickens

Raw Milk – So, work has been done that will help our efforts be successful when trying to influence politicians to support Food Freedom, i.e. where small farms can raise and sell into commerce and consumers have the freedom to choose who they buy from. Last week I had an hour conversation with the Director of the TX based Farm & Ranch Freedom Alliance. They were helpful in Louisiana changing their laws to support raw milk. It was very clear that it requires knowing the current law(s) and what the end game needs to be. And, sometimes change comes by winning a battle at a time to accomplish the final solution.

Beef & Egg Pricing Updates

Beef Pricing – I wanted to take a moment to highlight my research on what the beef market is doing and what 2025 pricing could look like. First, Live Cattle Futures have been trading in a very tight horizontal range for at least the past two months with the upper limit in the $191.50 per pound area. December 31st price broke out ABOVE the prior top, came down and retested the breakout level, and then by January 3rd hit a new high just over $196 per pound live weight.

NEW Ocean Springs Pickup Location | Bacon, Bacon, Bacon

"NEW" Ocean Springs Pickup Location – During our December delivery a representative of the property owner stopped to say we could no longer use their location to meet customers. I queried our December customers and received several suggestions. The recommendation we decided on was the Park & Ride lot located in the SW intersection of I-10 and Hwy 609 (Washington Ave.). This is next door to Denny's. Here is a link to the updated details including a map showing where to meet us beginning January 4th. In many ways this location is much better than the Ace parking lot. I know for us it will be nice not to have the traffic on Hwy 90 especially when there are events scheduled in downtown OS.
