What's In YOUR Chicken?

Happy New Year and hello from your farmer,

How many people really know where their food comes from or how it was raised? My guess would be at least 95% of the population never considers the impact food has on their health and basically considers food - well just food. My thoughts are reinforced from conversations with many of my customers who have shared our farm (and even given samples they purchased) to their family and friends.

Should people care? Absolutely! Our health is directly affected to a large degree by the quality of the foods we eat and what we drink. Our countries health issues are a direct reflection of poor diets. Top of the list is SUGAR and foods that convert to sugar.

Today, their are many "risk" in our food supply chains. Since we built the USDA Poultry plant I receive weekly health alerts from the FSIS. Here is one received Dec 29th.

"The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is issuing a public health alert for an undetermined amount of imported meat and poultry products from China. A recall was not requested because FSIS has been unable to identify and contact the importers. The total amount of ineligible product is undetermined because the investigation is ongoing."

I had another article received this week about research on the leading poultry companies in the U.S.A. and the scheme's they come up with to deceive customers into believing their products are something they really are not! I thought I had saved the link in my Inbox to share, but somehow it has been deleted. The jest of the article dealt with label brand names and how only a very few plants are processing the same chicken under many very different labels & label claims. And, since I no longer have the email to share the link I want say anymore so as not to misquote facts.

As a small local farm we are not trying to be all things to all people! Unlike the big corporations, we meet and get to know our customers every time you pickup an order from the farm or one of our many convenient delivery locations. We work hard to be transparent in all aspects of our operations to build trust with our customers. No surprises!

For example, a few weeks ago I shared an update on our broiler chickens. I showed pictures of our brooder and discussed our daily task. Then, I included pictures of our pasture operation and how we move them daily to fresh pasture, feed, and water them. If you were to visit the farm to check us out you will see the same thing. Again, build trust and not surprises.

Mary sent this email December 18th - "So glad we got those big chickens.

We roasted the big bird with local favorite Letha's BBQ sauce and fed my family 4 times. Through the bones in the Instapot and made almost 16 cups of bone broth stock.
And a little leftover meat and veggies made a delicious Chicken soup I have for 4 meals.

The cost savings and health savings are awesome. If we would eat out at our favorite chicken BBQ place it's $50 minimum bill now multiply that by 4.
Even paying more for quality premium healthy chickens still saves our family A LOT OF MONEY in the end.

Thanks again,

So, What's In YOUR Chicken? Does your chicken source share their production practices? If not, how can you trust you are getting what you are paying for?

Let me encourage you to take control of your health and get to learn about what it means to eat healthy and the many benefits. Two resources I can recommend are Weston A. Price Foundation and Mercola.com. And, don't be surprised if the information contradicts what you otherwise were told or thought!

Customer's Speak Out

Last week's newsletter really struck home to many customers based on very positive responses received. Jennie, one of our Mobile customers (1st order April 2022 and has completed 18 nice orders since then) gave me permission to share her comments. “Maybe it will encourage others to get started,” she said. Jennie writes, “Wow, Ben, your newsletter really struck a chord with me today. Back in 2019 I was going through some personal trials that were causing me extraordinary stress, anger and frustration. I took up gardening as therapy. You may remember my t-shirt that said "I garden so I don't choke people." LOL! I had no clue how to garden so I started with a few pots of various greens that fall. They didn't do well, but

WOW!!!

Last week I shared our team processing ground beef for our farm’s March sales. This was after two days spent cutting and packing steaks, roast, etc. from eight beef. Once all the beef was stacked into our freezer I made a short video that you can watch by clicking HERE This video represents 8-beef. 1.5 beef were custom orders and 6.5 beef (about 1.5 more than our typical amount harvested) were for our farm store sales.
